Taronga Zoo Sydney – Review

Hello!

Today we took the girls on one of their favourite outings- a trip to the zoo. We actually gave them a choice of different places to go and they excitedly requested the zoo.

So I thought it might be helpful to do a little review, for out of towners and Sydneysiders who are thinking of visiting. For me the zoo is the ultimate form of incidental exercise for the whole family!

Admission is quite expensive $44 for an Adult $22 for a child (4-15) and free for under 4’s. There are also family deals. We are Zoo friends ($110 for first adult and $100 for additional adults). If you live in Sydney this is the best way to go. The additional adults do not have to be named so you can share/ pass around cards amongst friends or family if they are going on a different day. Often you can get discounts and deals from their website Taronga -so check it out before you go.

Parking is also a bit dear at $15 for the day. If you are a zoo friend you can get your ticket validated and pay $6. You can also find street parking but most of it is 2 hrs only.

Or you can get there by bus or ferry! Check out 131500 for timetables, prices and trip planning.

The zoo itself is beautiful and quite large. We tend to only do about half of it each time we go in about 2 -3 hrs. There are beautiful parks and viewing spots that overlook the Harbour and across to the city.

It has a wide range of Australian animals as well as most of your favorites from abroad (elephants, tigers, lions, giraffes, gorillas, chimps, zebras etc). The enclosures are often being improved and updated so I feel confident that they are working to keep the animals happy and stimulated.

They have a seal show and a bird show,  which my kids enjoy, even though they are probably still a little bit young for the shows. The best days to go are weekdays, not during school holidays. It gets quite a bit of sunshine so even on a cool winters day the zoo is quite pleasant.

The facilities are really good for parents. There is a mothers room and change tables in the bathrooms. There is plenty of food and drinks available, however, they are quite expensive. So we always bring our own. It is definitely a stimulating day for all ages!

Do you visit the Zoo in your city? Have you ever been to Taronga Zoo in Sydney? What are your favourite animals to watch?

Lots of love,

Jess

I should add these thoughts and opinions are my own and sadly no one compensated me! 🙂
