Finding Time to Exercise with Kids!

Kids play skiprope on Morro Strand State Beach - Wholesome Family SceneHello!

Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great week!

Yesterday I took the girls for a run in their stroller, which is something I haven’t done in ages. Being big 3 year olds they really don’t want to go in the stroller much. I like to walk everywhere rather than drive if I can so I take them for short walks quite frequently. However, running with them has become less common these days, they don’t enjoy it and having two complainers the whole run gets old. However, yesterday I took them up and down some hills and we haven’t been in ages so I think they enjoyed the novelty of it.

I’m realising that with each stage that they get to their routine obviously changes, but my exercise routine has to be re-worked. I’m still in the “teething” stages of this new stage. I’m trying to figure out the best time for me to get out and get some exercise most effectively. Night workouts have been a frequent feature since they were born, although lately with my anaemia I’ve been extra tired at night have been finding my motivation is really down at night. So I’m trying to figure out how I can regularly fit it into my day time schedule.

Next year in January or February they will be starting preschool two days a week and hopefully on those days it will be easier to get in a good workout session (depending on my work schedule). And of course I’m expecting big changes from them as they commence preschool with their confidence and independence so we will be back to re-working things again.

When I was a trainer I used to constantly talk to Mum’s and talk to them about how important “me time” and time out to exercise was. I still believe that, however, I now realise how hard it is for Mum’s. Taking an hour out of your day to workout doesn’t seem like a big deal, but when you have to time it with little ones it can be a challenge. Not impossible just something that has to be worked out

I feel honestly though if you are consistent and motivated you will figure out how to workout and have some time to stay fit and healthy. You certainly have to be a lot more flexible and be including your kiddo in your session. Kids are very much naturally drawn to activity after all!

I know Mum’s are not the only ones who struggle with fitting it all in and finding time to exercise. People are just increasingly busy. So for all of you out there have you ever struggled to find the time? What are your tips and tricks for fitting it in?
