Holidays are upon us (well nearly) and many people like to travel. In Australia Christmas and January School Holidays are probably the biggest travel period. It is summer here, kids get a break from school and it is nice to take some time out from work and life for the adults.
With travel comes change in routine, eating and sleeping habits. And this includes changes in our workout routines. Sometimes a real break is a wonderful thing and very much needed. But it can also be nice to get in some active time and some workouts. Particularly if you are going to be away for awhile or you are going somewhere that will not include a lot of incidental activity.
What do you do if you’re not staying at a fancy hotel with a gym? Bring your own equipment. There are plenty of great products that are light weight and can be tucked into your suitcase easily without weighing down your bags. Here are some ideas of products I like and use when I go away. These are all Amazon affiliate links so if you were to purchase anything I’d make a tiny commission. However, I’m really just linking them up to give you ideas. Feel free to look elsewhere for your products too!
Valeo Deluxe Speed Rope
Skipping as we Aussie’s call it, or Jumping rope is one of my favourite and cheapest cardio workouts around. It is so efficient and effective and a skipping rope easily tucks into your bag.
Black Mountain Products Resistance Band Set with Door Anchor, Ankle Strap, Exercise Chart, and Resistance Band Carrying Case
Resistance bands are awesome. I love them. When I was a trainer I used to give them to all my clients. You can control how hard the resistance is and you can in a really good workout. They are obviously much cheaper, lighter and travel friendly then weights! And they are great not only for seasoned fitness junkies but also for those rehab-ing or starting out!
Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 Plus Mirrored Goggle, Silver/Blue
These kind of speak for themselves, but if you are going somewhere with a pool you can get a great and cheap workout in. Goggles are not essential but they definitely help protect your eyes and can keep you in the water for longer.
Speedo Women’s Race Learn to Swim Superpro Swimsuit, Navy, 28
Again, speaks for itself. If you are going somewhere with a pool, by the ocean, a lake, clean body of water large enough to swim etc consider going for a swim and getting in a nice workout. I love spending hours in the water and if you have kids take them with you, most children love being active in the water too.
Nike Air Max IVO LTR Women Sneakers Black/Pink Foil/Summit White/Teal Tint 579770-036 (SIZE: 6)
Cross trainers or runners or whatever you choose a good quality, supportive sports shoe is an excellent thing on any holiday. Even if you don’t intend on doing any formal workouts it is great to have some comfortable, supportive shoes for exploring, walking around and getting out and about. If you are concerned about their clunkiness in your carry on you can always wear them on board if you’re flying!
